JAMB speaks on scores upgrade requests by candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has described as fake the ongoing scam on Facebook, a social media account, calling for candidates desirous of upgrade of scores in the 2017 Unified Tertiary matriculation Examination (UTME) to come forward.

The Board dissociated itself from a statement to that effect purportedly signed by the Registrar of JAMB, Is-haq Oloyede, a professor.

The organisation warned the public, particularly desperate candidates, against falling victim of unscrupulous elements plotting to defraud them of their hard earned money.

A statement issued on Wednesday night by the spokesperson of JAMB, Fabian Benjamin, said the perpetrators of the act, “gave the list of beneficiary of the said upgrade and categories of score with a telephone number which doesn’t belong to the Registrar of JAMB.”

Mr. Benjamin said, “We wish to state unequivocally that the statement was not from JAMB, its Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, or any of its offices nor has he authorized any persons or group to post such an inglorious request and statement.

“JAMB therefore want to state that the results gotten by candidates from the 2017 UTME were the true reflection of their performance after going through a full proof scoring mechanisms. As such, it did not intend to review the scores or commissioned any body to do that. JAMB has also not been directed by any organ of government to so.

“JAMB wants to use this opportunity to state that its examination is not a fail or pass examination as there are other variables that are considered outside the examination to arrive at a successful admission. There is no need for this desperation as getting “high” scores as being touted by fraudulent characters is not a guarantee for admission.

“Candidates are urged to channel all enquiries to JAMB offices closer to them for proper education and counselling. Meanwhile, efforts are on to track down the perpetrators of this heinous post by the security operatives with a view to serving as deterrent to others.”
